Join us with our virtual row to Hong Kong

This year Shopmobility are celebrating 20 years in Aberdeen.  To mark this occasion, they are organising a virtual return trip between "our" Aberdeen, and Aberdeen Harbour in Hong Kong (home of the "other" Aberdeen Boat Club).  ABC have been invited to help them cross the significant water sections by rowing, by clocking up miles on the ergo.

The centrepiece of this will be on Saturday 19th April (Easter Saturday), when we will be rowing on ergos in Union Square, in the large open area at the South end of the main mall (by the entrances to Boots, Next & Superdry).  Needless to say, as well as helping Shopmobility with their event, this is a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of ABC, and in particular it's perfectly timed to promote the Intercompany Challenge.

We therefore need AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE to come down and erg during the day.  Timing has yet to be confirmed, but I'd imagine 10:00 - 17:00 would be appropriate; once confirmed I'll get a rota organised, but for now please pencil it into your diaries.  We want ALL SORTS - not just the toned 20-somethings, but Veterans, Novices, Socials, this is an opportunity to show that the club caters for everyone.  There's no criteria on what you should do on the ergo, that's up to you - a sprint (or a few), 5k test, long steady-state piece, intervals, a light paddle, whatever suits you.  We will also need at least one person not rowing, to talk to the public about what we're doing, and encourage them to find out more about the club and Intercompany (with the help of leaflets they can take away).

There will be several ergos out (probably 4-8, depending on what the rota looks like), so feel free to come down in a group and train together.  And we want everyone wearing ABC club colours!


There's no money-raising element to this - we don't have to pay anything, nor do we need to raise sponsorship nor try and raise money from passers-by.  Just turn up and row.

We can also clock up miles every time we ergo at the club - I'll be preparing a sign-up sheet, whenever you do an ergo you can write up your distance and it'll all go towards the total.
