Intercompany Regatta | Review

A complement of 36 crews from companies across Aberdeen took to the water on the 28th of June for Aberdeen Boat Club’s Annual Intercompany Regatta. Sponsored this year by Swire Oilfield Services, this event was another huge success for the participants and the club – though the weather this year was more changeable even than the standard of rowing.

The regatta was won by Dee Tall Ones (from Maersk Oil North Sea Ltd), coached by Dan Davidson, beating the Arbrowth Strokies (from Schlumberger), coached by Pete Turner, into second place. There was also the usual array of weird, wonderful and inventive costumes, but the eventual winners of the best costume were the pop culture appropriate team from CNR who took to the water as minions from Despicable Me 2 coached by Lorraine Boyle. There were also the usual arrays of ridiculous and inventive team names, with the ‘best name’ prize eventually going to The Pirates of Men’s Pants from Oceaneering coached by Louise Mackenzie Cooke.

Those who came along to support and spectate were treated to the usual array of entertainment (or barrage of innuendo, depending on the time of day) from our commentators and kept refreshed by the tea stall, barbeque and the ever successful Pimm’s stall – always popular when you’re selling Pimms by the pint!

Congratulations to all participants, thanks to all of our intrepid coaches, and all of the various ABC members who made it happen on the day.
